AIG was be a best stock to invest if you plan to invest for a long term, because AIG is too big to fail and beside AIG no longer need government bailout money. if you invest in AIG are now you returning profit is 10-30 times in 3-5 years.

When is the right time to invest in the stock market?
I know what the stock market is and that you must contact a broker. Would it be possible to have individual and direct involvement? How? Do any of you know a website that can teach "trading" and "stock-no-how"? Are the profits even worth investing in the stock market?
It's always a good time and always a bad time. I prefer to utilize game based websites so that you can get the feeling of buying/selling and understand how commissions effect your profit. kaChing is a good one. In the real life I prefer Scottrade but for the most part your broker is simply an interface preference along with a cost determination based upon how many trades you plan to make. In general I would recommend that you study for a minimum of 3 months. The next piece is to read online portfolios and understand both the good and the bad decisions that people make. You can view these at sites like kaChing or sites where people post their picks (mine is http://www.investmenttheories.com). The final piece of the puzzle involves talking with people and I don't mean on a message board. Find a knowledgeable and experienced friend that you can simply discuss topics with. Once you are comfortable discussing you know that you have enough knowledge to begin.
In terms of profits, it can certainly be worthwhile, but it can also cost you, ultimately, I believe it's worth it, but it comes down to what you're comfortable with.

How is the stock market and the economy connected?
If the stock market does bad does the economy also do bad? Or is it the other way around? How and in what ways are they connected?
It used to be "the market moved the economy." (1990's-2000),
In 2008 the "economy moved the market." Since March 2009, "the market is moving the economy" so they think.
Some people in the media think that wall Street and main Street are separate. They are completely connected via 401(k), Pension, other retirement accounts, and individual investing.
Options and Stock Market Technical Chart Analysis for May 18, 2009 by Idan Koren
Today I looked at the incredible action that we got from the S&P. A 3% move higher is very strong price action, and even though it looked very unpredictable and the volume was incredibly low, it must be respected and the bulls might get the benefit of the doubt for tomorrows trade. There was some amateurish action in the last 30 minutes of trading which lends itself to a potential gap lower into tomorrow, but there a strong levels of support which could reverse the market action back into positive territory and take us to a double top region on the SPX. The bull seem to want to reach the 200 SMA daily, and that would probably be a great place for the shorts to pile in. I believe having a small bullish bias before hitting that level could be profitable and covering any shorts into a 38.2% retracement at 898 could be the wise trade. In this video I also look at GS, SPY, VIX and SRS.

What can you tell me about the stock market?
Anything I might need to know, with a source if possible.
The best answer will go to the one who gives me the most amount of information OR who can answer this question:
Do people consider the stock market an adequate indicator of how well the US economy is doing? Please give a source, if possible.
It's an indicator but only one of many. Gross domestic product, unemployment numbers, housing starts etc… all factor in to a strong economy. For example, the market is up over 2000 points for the year so far but unemployment, while better this month than last, is still enormous. Housing starts aren't too promising right now either. That said, it does appear that we are in a period of expansion and recovery. Only time will tell.
